MOLD
Mold...that seemingly harmless furry stuff that
crops up in damp spots has been getting the
attention of risk managers, safety officials and
others as concerns about possible health issues increase.
Given the proper conditions, mold can easily
thrive in an indoor setting. Dam sheet rock,
paint, wallpaper, insulation and carpet can
be a host for mold. The cause of the problem
can usually be traced to roof leaks, improperly sealed windows and doors, air conditioning and plumbing leaks, balconies, decks and shower installations. Deterioration of building materials and structural damage to structural members will occur if left unattended.
Molds produce health effects through inflammation, allergy, or infection. Allergic reactions (often referred to as hay fever) are most common following mold exposure. Typical symptoms that mold-exposed persons report (alone or in combination) include:
- Respiratory problems, such as wheezing, difficulty breathing, and shortness of breath
- Nasal and sinus congestion
- Eye irritation (burning, watery, or reddened eyes)
- Dry, hacking cough
- Nose or throat irritation
- Skin rashes or irritation
Our experienced staff will inspect your home or commercial building for visible signs of fungus, mold, and water staining or moisture intrusion. Using state-of-the-art testing methods, our qualified personnel will help determine the presence of potential hazards.
We also offer basic training for building managers, contractors, remediators and other professionals on mold prevention and mold remediation as per EPA's March 2001 "Mold Remediation in schools and Commercial Buildings"
